WILTSHIRE LEAGUE

THE weekend weather sunk most of the Wiltshire League programme, but there were some fine performances in the games that were played.

Urchfont batsman Cosmos Cupid led the way, blasting an unbeaten 218 in his side's total of 362-5. It was the highest individual score recorded at Urchfont, who reduced visitors Heytesbury and Sutton Veny to 189-5 in Division Two.

Swindon 4ths romped to a big victory against Devizes 3rds in Division Five, scoring 247-7, with half centuries for Paul Sore, Jason McGinley and Cliff Iles. Devizes were all out for 60 (Will Holmes 2-2, Randy Roze 3-30, Kutzi Mlumbo 2-2, Ivan Braganza 3-13).

In Division Six the local derby between Highworth and United Churches saw Churches reduced to 4-4 early on.

Eric Vanzeal steadied the innings briefly, hitting 28 from just 15 balls, and finished Churches' top scorer, but his dismissal sparked a final collapse and they were bowled out for just 92 after 25 overs.

Mike Bushnell took his first two wickets for Highworth. He is only 14 but at over 6ft is a great prospect for the future. He finished with 2-16 off five overs.

Tom White returned from university and looked fit and sharp, finishing with the best bowling figures of 3-13 from six overs.

Highworth's openers got off to a great start, with the opening pair putting on more than 40 before skipper Andrew Batstone fell, caught off the bowling of Spackman.

Saj Razaq came and went without troubling the scorers, but Joe White and Barry Jones saw the visitors home within 24 overs, Barry Jones finishing unbeaten on 58.
