SWINDON Shock blew a 12-point lead in the fourth quarter as they ended up going down 89-87 to Team Solent Kestrels in Division Three South on Saturday.

David Colcough’s side were playing their first game of 2019 after the scheduled game against London Medelynas was postponed on January 5.

Coming off the back of three straight wins at the end of 2018, Shock’s last defeat was to the same opposition in a lower-scoring affair back in late October – an 85-65 defeat as Matt Ford top-scored with 15 that day.

This time, though, Shock made a fast start and had the better of the early opportunities.

The New College based outfit showed the type of form that has propelled them towards the play-off mix as Colclough’s side took a four-point lead into the first-quarter break.

Shock continued to find ways to build the lead in the second, going in 43-35 at the half.

The third was a high-scoring affair as both teams were up in the high 20s, but Swindon hung on to their lead and were nine points up with 15 minutes to play.

But, after finding themselves leading by as many as 12, Shock fell apart in the final quarter as Team Solent produced a stunning comeback to steal the win.

The visitors tied the game up at 84 with just over two minutes to play before a couple of scores in the remaining seconds helped them to an 89-87 victory.

The result leaves Swindon fourth in the table having won six of the nine league games they have contested so far this season.

Shock will travel to Essex Blades this weekend – the team directly below them in the table – as they try to reclaim third place from Bristol UWE Flyers II with their seventh win of the season.
