MOREDON A roared to a convincing 45-29 win over Nationwide A in Division One during the latest round of fixtures in the Swindon & District Netball League.

The contest was a tough battle in blustery wind, which made conditions difficult for both teams, but Moredon were always a cut above.

A hotly-contested Division Two match between Lawn B and Fairford A ended 54-45 in favour of the former.

Fairford took an early lead, but that did not last long, and Lawn were in command after the first five minutes.

Fairford fought back and were able to minimise the deficit, but Lawn made several changes to keep their side fresh and eventually came out on top.

Moredon made it a winning weekend for their top two teams as, alongside the heroics of the As, the B squad were triumphant in Division Three as they overcame Nationwide C 26-20.

Again, conditions were difficult, with shooting proving a challenge and reflected in the low score.

A rare draw unfolded between Lawn C and Jets A as the two sides could not be separated, finishing 39-39.

Playing with a team of only seven, Lawn knew they would have to pull on their energy reserves.

They were two goals down at half-time, but good defending throughout the court allowed them to convert interceptions into goals and finish the third quarter ahead.

However, a couple of errors in the final session gave Jets the chance to hit back, and the scoreboard was all-square come the final whistle.

Royal Wootton Bassett A were convincing 48-21 winners over Croft C.

Bassett worked hard to counter-attack a strong Croft defence throughout the court, with their accurate shooting setting up the victory.

Moonrakers were the big winners in Division Four, thumping Jets B 52-17.

In a contest played in wind, some rain and sunshine, Moonrakers made a slow start but soon raised their game.

Jets were performing well after only starting with seven players, however, an injury saw their numbers reduced, allowing Moonrakers to pull clear.

Royal Wootton Bassett B comfortably beat Burmah C 40-9.

Bassett took the lead in the first quarter and their tight defensive play and accurate shooting meant they never relinquished the advantage.

Nationwide D claimed their second win of the season in Division Five with a 52-32 success over Croft D.

Nationwide took the lead from the outset and were five goals ahead at the end of the first quarter.

Croft made some changes and were able to reduce the deficit to just two at half-time, however, Nationwide quickly regained the initiative and dominated the final two quarters to claim victory.

Lawn D stunned top-of-the-table Calne with a dominant second-half display to inflict a 39-31 defeat.

Calne started strongly and Lawn were unable to match their play, falling nine goals adrift by half-time.

After team changes, Lawn came out with determination and grabbed the momentum with strong attacking play and solid defensive work.

Superb interceptions helped to narrow the gap before accurate shooting completed the turnaround in the final quarter.

Royal Wootton Bassett C were 37-31 winners over Raychem F.

The score was level after the first quarter, but Bassett got themselves in front in the second session and solid mid-court play allowed them to maintain the edge.
