WILTSHIRE racers were in the thick of the action when the first round of the Classic Racing Motorcycle Club Championships took place at Castle Combe last weekend.

Swindon’s Alexander Sinclair notched up 12 podium finishes from 12 races.

Competing on his Louigi Moto Ducati backed 750cc Ducati, he recorded four second places in the pre-1987 1300cc Superbike races, before using the same machine to take three more second places in the Superbike 1 and post-Classic 750 races.

Sinclair followed these results with three thirds and a second in the pre-1973 350cc twin cylinder race on his 349cc Honda Drixton.

Other local competitors took to track on notable bikes, with Wroughton's Duncan Fitchett competing on a TZ 350cc Yamaha that raced in World Championship Grand Prix during the 1980s.

His best result over the weekend was third place in Saturday's race, while Fitchett also competed on a Manx Norton in the four 500cc Grand Prix and Clubman races, with a pair of 11th-placed finishes as well as a ninth and eighth.

Bradford on Avon's Richard Dobson notched up four fourth-placed finished in the 500cc air-cooled races on his 460cc Honda.

Dobson purchased the bike on eBay several years ago only to discover it was the same machine that his father’s shop, Bob Missen of Melksham, had provided for Devizes’ Richard Stevens to compete at the Isle of Man TT in the late 1970s.
