WOOTTON Bassett’s men extended their winning streak to four games with a 5-3 win at Westbury.

After a strong side by the home side, Bassett eventually settled and began their onslaught on the Westbury goal.

Kyle Barnes went close but couldn’t find his usual clinicial finish.

Eventually though captain Dan Stanley stepped up to fire home the opener.

Five minutes later Matt Edgar broke through and made it two with a well-taken goal.

Bassett though relinquished their lead conceding two goals from short corners just before the break.

Two goals early in the second half though got Bassett back on track.

Barnes edged Bassett in front before Ali Wood restored the two-goal cushion.

Westbury reduced the deficit soon after before Stanley added his second goal to clinch victory.

On Saturday Bassett play host to high flying City of Bath, 1pm at Lime Kiln.

n Wootton Bassett’s ladies went down 3-2 at home to Bretforton despite twice leading the match.

Within the first 10 minutes Bassett went one up - Debbie Trowbridge slotting home from Becky Thomas’ pass.

Bretforton levelled but, just before the break, Bassett went back in front when Trowbridge scored from Lisa Turner’s cross.

After the break both teams had chances to score but Bretforton took control and only some good saves from goalkeeper Bronnie Duff kept them out.

However, the pressure eventually told and they were rewarded with two penalty strokes, both well struck, to draw level and then to take the lead.

Bassett went looking for the equaliser without success.
