BOWLS: WESTLECOT will have representatives in three of the four area finals in the main national indoor championship events.

Neil Smith is through to the Area 16 final in the singles while Ian Jefferies has qualified for the Area 16 triples and fours finals. They are all due to be played at Clarrie Dunbar, Frome on Saturday, February 18.

Smith booked his place in the area final against John Hick (Clevedon) following a 21-13 win over Steve Remington (North Wilts).

He made a fine start and opened up a 13-4 lead but was pegged back to 14-13 before powering away to win 21-13.

Jefferies had already qualified for the area triples final with Graham Hatherall and Mike Jackson and on Sunday made it two finals.

In an epic fours semi-final match at Westlecot partnering Kevin Embling, Chris Cheesley and Gary Morphet, he overcame Nick Grenfell's rink in a marathon.

The game started at 6.25pm and finished 5 hours 55 minutes later at 12.20am.

Fourteen ends were killed, 11 of them by Grenfell ( North Wilts) before Jefferies claimed a three on the 21st and last end for a last gasp 21-20 victory.

In the area triples and fours finals Jefferies will face Bristol's Ryan Collier.
