SWIMMING: TIGERSHARKS young swimmers produced some fine performances at the Wiltshire Sprint Championships.

They claimed one senior and three junior championship titles, as well as four age group best times and a host of age group winners.

Sharks opened with victory in the mixed 8x1 junior medley relay with the team of Natalie Montezuma, James Magness, Step Millin, Dean Williamson, Stacey Wood, Aaron Lee, Sophie Hawkins and Alex Jones romping home.

The star of the show for the Sharks was Montezuma. The 14-year-old was in awesome form in all four strokes.

In the backstroke final she lowered her fastest heat time to fend off Chippenham's Rachael Steele, 16, to take her first senior championship title as well as the junior crown and age group in a new age best time.

Montezuma qualified for the freestyle championship final taking gold in the junior section, while in the breaststroke she claimed third in the junior championship and gold in her age group.

Hayley Wood, 17, took silver in the senior butterfly championship behind Swindon AC's Sarah Christmas.

In the men's competition with so many Masters swimmers competing it was always going to be difficult for any of the junior boys to reach championship finals only 15-year- old backstroke specialist Aaron Lee making a final.

He improved his backstroke heat time to win the junior championship, finish fifth in the senior section and win his age group.

In the fly competition he had to settle for gold in the junior championships and in his age group as well as a bronze in the freestyle junior championship.

In the backstroke events there were strong performances from the young Sharks boy swimmers.

Wins were recorded by Kane Baker in the 10 year category in a new AGBT, Joshua Wheeler (11), Matthew Jones (13) , a clean sweep in the 14yrs section by Magness, Alex Jones and Williamson, and Lee (15). Magness was awarded second in the backstroke junior championship.

Jamie Towner, 8, who can swim in this age group again next year, swam to silver.

In the girls events Sophie Roberts, 10, snatched gold in a new AGBT ahead of her two team-mates Briony Merritt and Rachel Waine for a 1-2-3.

This feat was then matched in the 11 year section by Lauren Jones, Rosemary Broad and Eleanor Hussey.

Lauren Jones (11) and Montezuma (14) were the successes in the breaststroke.

Alex Jones flew the flag in the boys breaststroke with fourth in the junior championships.

In the boys 14 year butterfly the trio of boys reversed the placings of the backstroke with Williamson coming out on top with third in the junior championship, Alex Jones claiming silver and fourth in the juniors with a bronze for Magness and fifth in the junior championship.

Lee took the title to give Sharks four of the top five placings.

Briony Merritt (10) won her section while Hayley Towner took gold in the 13 year age group.

There were some excellent performances in the freestyle with Sophie Hawkins (13) beating local rival Maddie Harris (Chippenham) to win gold in her age group in a new AGBT and third in the junior championship.

Rosemary Broad and Lauren Jones made it a 1-2 in the 11 year section with Montezuma taking the junior championship.

In the boys a returning to form Matthew Jones was a clear winner in the 13 age group. Alex Jones and Dean Williamson made it a 1-2 to totally dominate the 14 year age group with Jones also taking fourth in the junior championship.

Baker grabbed silver with bronzes awarded to Daniel Watt, Joshua Wheeler and Aaron Lee.
