WILTSHIRE slipped to a second defeat in the Inter-County Championship competition at South West Week in Somerset yesterday.

The county, captained by Cumberwell Park's Ali James, were beaten 8.75-5.25 by the hosts to lie bottom of the standings after two of the five rounds at Weston-super-Mare Golf Club.

Wiltshire were up against it after the morning singles, which they lost five three, the final three of Kingsdown's Paul McMullen, Bowood's Luke Gorman and Ogbourne Downs' Jake Bolton salvaging wins.

Slade and Cumberwell Park's James Cooper picked up a success in the afternoon foursomes, Broome Manor's Tom Law and Max Drayton, of Wrag Barn, securing a half as Somerset won the other two matches.

Players from Wiltshire, Somerset, Cornwall, Dorset, Gloucestershire and Devon were contesting the South West Amateur Championship and South West Youth Championship today, which also incorporates the qualifying round for the English Men’s County Championship, which Wiltshire won in 2011 and 2012.
