RYAN Watt believes that ‘things can only get better’ at Swindon Wildcats as the Link Centre side aim to correct their stuttering form.

While Wildcats ended a run of four straight defeats on Saturday with a 5-2 victory over Telford, the following night they were thumped 7-1 by a Slough side that have experienced an indifferent start to the campaign.

Recent signing Watt sees light at the end of the tunnel, however, and says all players are aware that their jobs are on the line every time they step out on the ice.

“We’re in a bit of a slump having won one of the last five,” he said. “It can only get better, it can’t get any worse and we’ve just got to pull together.

“Aldy (head coach Ryan Aldridge) has said that no one’s job is safe so everyone is playing for their job and playing for the team. We have to go into every game with the mentality of winning.

“He told us he was going to make changes so that puts everyone on their toes, which means everyone is working harder and fighting for their spot, which is good, you should have that competition.

“Hopefully it’s not me because I’ve only just come in, but he’s the coach and if he’s got to make a change, whatever he thinks is right is right.”

Watt admitted Swindon were ‘outworked’ by the Jets on Sunday as Wildcats suffered their worst defeat of the season.

He said: “We got a quick goal and then sort of sat back and let them play instead of keeping going. They found holes in that managed to get two goals which meant they won the first.

“In the second and third they seemed to want it more, they outworked us all over the ice and we just weren’t good enough.”
