SWINDON Wildcats player-coach Aaron Nell says he is delighted with the way his team can grind out victories, following consecutive four-point weekends.

Following wins over Basingstoke Bison and Telford Tigers seven days earlier, Nell watched his troops come through another tough set of fixtures this weekend.

Invicta Dynamos are the only side to beat the Wildcats when they met for the first time in the middle of September, but the Cats were able to avenge that defeat at the Link Centre, where a late flurry saw them pick up a 7-4 win on Saturday.

Nell’s side then doubled their points haul for the two days, with an impressive 2-1 win at Streatham, who were another new opponent in NIHL South One.

While the two games presented different challenges, Nell was pleased to see how his team dealt with what was in front of them.

“We are happy with the results. They were two tough games and especially yesterday (against Streatham), I thought we played really well over the weekend,” he said.

“Invicta put a lot of pressure on us but we stayed strong and were able to get a big win.

“At home, we were in a tough spot and we did pull through and it ended up being quite a comfortable.

“Sunday was really tight and Streatham were a good side who worked extremely hard. I think it was good for us to have to defend a lead like that.”

After failing to claim the maximum points on the opening weekend, the Wildcats chief thinks their recent results demonstrate how much they have progressed.

“It was very similar to the game at Invicta a couple of weeks ago and we have shown how far we’ve come because I think it was a tougher game but we pulled through and got the big two points,” he added.

“It’s different every weekend but again, it was two very tough games, especially playing away from home and getting two points, which is the most important thing.

“It was another big weekend. That is four wins in a row now and we are looking forward to next weekend.”

The Wildcats are back in action on Saturday, where they welcome Cardiff Fire to the Link Centre before travelling to London Raiders a day later.
