SWINDON Wildcats produced a rampant performance at home as they dismantled Cardiff Fire 7-0 at the Link Centre.

Sam Bullas claimed a double, while Ollie Stone, Stevie Whitfield, Ben Nethersell, Max Birbraer and Sam Zajac all registered solitary efforts in what was a comfortable outing for Aaron Nell’s side.

The hosts, who have now won seven games in a row, had an early glimpse of goal when Chris Jones saw his effort slide wide of the post in the opening five minutes of the contest.

However, shortly after, the game burst into life as Bullas and Stone scored within 40 seconds of each other.

Bullas’ goal came first in the eighth minute, he was allowed to drive towards goal from the left before slotting the puck past a stranded opposition netminder.

Stone’s effort was not quite as easy on the eye, but the teenager will take it as it was his first goal for the club.

That two-goal cushion was strengthened further with a minute of the period to go when Ben Nethersell’s effort took a wicked deflection before trickling into the net.

The second period saw Swindon continue their dominance as Stevie Whitfield weighed in with another goal.

The D-man had a look up with 22 seconds played, decided to try his luck and reaped his rewards with a fourth goal for the Cats.

Four then became five courtesy of Bullas grabbing his second of the game in the 23rd minute, when he poked home from close range.

A second period scramble saw Matt Smital forced into action, after the initial save, a sweeping move saw the puck hit the back of the net for Swindon’s sixth, Birbraer was the goalscorer this time.

The third period saw a slight lull in tempo from the previous two, but nonetheless the Cats stretched their margin to seven with under minutes to go.

With the game already won, the Cats continued to push and got what they were after when Zajac found the puck at his feet and let fly from distance.

The Wildcats were never really threatened by their visitors who could only manage a total of 17 shots on Smital's goal.
