SWINDON Wildcats import Max Birbraer says the club can’t take anything for granted as they host Telford Tigers at the Link Centre on Saturday.

The Cats go into the game fresh from a four-point weekend in domestic competition, as they look for the same outcome in their NIHL Cup fixtures this weekend.

After the Tigers visit the Link Centre on Saturday, player-coach Aaron Nell will be hoping to claim a second weekend win at Bracknell Bees.

So far this season the Cats have been victorious in all four of the games they have come up against the Shropshire side.

While that may be the case, former Telford man Birbraer says you can’t underestimate the Tigers despite their recent record against them.

“Telford is always challenging, obviously they are a little bit different to last year and I’m not sure what their line-up is going to be,” he said.

“There is a lot of movement in their line-up but from the experience so far this season, we have beaten them every time so our target is to win again.

“We are very optimistic. We take confidence from our record with them this season, it is a massive boost.

“Over the last few years we have been challenging and we have lost the series to them, but at the same time, you can’t take it for granted.

“It’s not going to be easy because in those games that we did win, they were close so we have to approach the game with caution and respect.”

Not only was last weekend a good outing for the Wildcats, it was a good outing for Birbraer as he notched against both London Raiders and Cardiff Fire.

With that in mind, the 36-year-old says it is important both he and the team continue their recent form this weekend in the NIHL Cup.

“I don’t know if it is inconsistency but it feels like whenever we get to a league game we lose,” added Birbraer.

“So after last weekend, need to continue winning. I’m happy with everything and I’m coming around now offensively.

“We mixed up the lines a little bit and now I am settling in so that is going a little bit better now.

“Before that we were moving our lines around on a weekly basis but now we are settled, it’s the stability and consistency, that is probably the biggest thing that we are looking for.

“Hopefully we can get a couple more wins and get going.”
