SWINDON LIONS enjoyed mixed fortunes in their back-to-back Southern Under 14 League 2 matches, writes DAVE EATON.

They won 7-2 away to Bristol Beagles but failed repeat the success 24 hours later when losing 7-5 at home to Solent and Gosport Hunters.

Lions were quickly into their stride in Bristol as Gareth Thomas combined with Hal Davison to score the first goal at 1.25.

A short while later Mike Joyce set-up Arron Loftus Baker for the second. And two more goals followed from Ryan Martin and Davison both assisted by Chris Simmons for a 4-0 first-break lead.

Nine minutes into the second session Bristol pulled a goal back before Adam Coakley and Loftus Baker, assisted by Aidan Stephens extended the lead to 6-1.

Beagles added a consolation second while Stephens completed the 7-2 win in the final minute.

Against the Hunters, Lions were overrun and trailed 7-0 early into the second period.

In the last five minutes Lions staged a remarkable recovery as Loftus Baker (2), Coakley, Thomas and Joyce pulled five goals back to stun the visitors.

n THE Under 16 B Lions just edged home by the odd goal in 11 in a thrilling league encounter at the Link Centre against Haringey Whippets.

They twice had to come from behind before sealing the two points with a 6-5 win.

Lions trailed 2-1 at the first break despite an opening goal from James Baker at 9.48.

However, Miles Bailey (17.09), Craig Hall (17.35) and David Crowther (25.05) restored parity at the end of the second period although Haringey's Ashley Curtin had notched a hat-trick.

Bailey (37.20) and Hall (40.48) then put Swindon 6-4 up before Nick Alley pulled a powerplay goal back at 42.45 for the visitors. Lions, however, held on for victory.
