1729 There’s the moment! After a lengthy build-up from Ginola, Thomas Bjorn gets his hands on the trophy and he’s now passing it around. What a tournament and victory from Team Europe.

1728 Victorious captain Bjorn said: “I’m going on holiday I think! This moment is unbelievable. I’ve been involved with Ryder Cup’s before and these guys have been brilliant. They made it very easy for me and my vice captains. I couldn’t have dreamt of anything better than this. They are the best fans in the world, we can’t do it without them and it’s amazing. I’m proud of these 12, they have been brilliant. We are standing across from some great golfers, Jim’s friendship over the years has been great. It’s been a privilege and honour to be in this position and I’m as proud as I can be, ever. Determination (made the difference). This 12 wanted it bad. There was a mood in the camp that was brilliant. They wanted it together, they came together as one.”

1722 Speaking at the presentation, losing captain Furyk said: “I’d like to thank everybody here in Paris at Le Golf National and the American fans that came out. It’s the greatest stadium we could have played in and I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I love these 12 guys here, they poured their hearts out for you, the fans and for their country this week. I’d take these guys on my team any day. I love you all. Thomas, you did an unbelievable job and your team, no matter how much pressure we put on them they responded. Congratulations.”

1718 David Ginola is back!

1716 Team Europe are suited and booted and draped in flags of their own country.

1710 The celebrations are well and truly under way and the presentation ceremony is coming up.

1705 Noren said of the incredible finish: “It’s always easier to play when the guys have done the job. I was just trying to finish it off in a good way. I’m very happy to be in this unbelievable team. It’s hard to describe, it’s nothing like any other tournament.”

1703 What a way to finish the Ryder Cup! Alex Noren beats Bryson DeChambeau by 1 hole by sinking an incredible long putt on the 18th. What a performance by Europe.

1650 McIlroy was quick to praise captain Bjorn and told Sky Sports Golf: “It’s incredible. We took a really tough loss at Hazeltine a few years ago – that stung. None of us wanted to feel like that on a Sunday afternoon. We’ve all just stuck to our jobs. We all contributed points. All 12 scored points and it validates Thomas’s choices. Thomas has been incredible. Over the past two years he’s been great. He’s been in constant contact with the players and built up a real rapport. It’s been a bit of a love-in for the past week! You forge friendships that last a lifetime and a few have been forged this week.”

1645 Stenson, a comfortable winner against Watson, told Sky Sports Golf: “We always knew it had the potential – Paris, this golf course. There was a little bit of extra revenge for me, so that has made it sweeter. We’ve had so much fun. It’s very special. We knew that we had strong depth on our side. You never know, but we came together to deliver the points and it was truly special. The crowd lift you and carry you on. You are so eager to make a putt so they all explode for you. There were more Swedes out there than I’ve ever seen at a Ryder Cup. A week to remember forever.”

1633 America’s captain Furyk praised his counterpart Bjorn and the European team. He told Sky Sports Golf: “I’m proud of these guys, they fought. There was a time this morning that it looked like we had a chance. But hats off to Europe, they played well again and turned it around. Hats off to Thomas, he’s a great captain. I think I’ll take a little time to digest. It’s still a little fresh for us at the moment. We’ll regroup and I’ll go through a few things in my head and we’ll move forward. I’ve got nothing more to say than we got outplayed.”

1626 Ryder Cup hero Poulter told Sky Sports Golf: “This one was massive, just look at the scenes. The buzz all week has been incredible. This is a special team. I was fortunate, as an old man, to get a pick and I helped out a little bit. We’re a strong force in Europe and being the underdogs made us more determined this week.”

1622 What’s this?! The USA have taken a point as Patrick Reed beats Tyrrell Hatton 3&2.

Europe 16.5 USA 10.5

1621 Garcia, who becomes Europe’s biggest ever scorer in the tournament, told Sky Sports Golf: “I don’t usually cry but today I couldn’t help it. What a week! It’s been a rough week but we fought hard. I’m so thankful to Thomas for picking me and believing in me and I’m so happy to get the cup back in Paris and Europe.”

On becoming top points scorer, he added: “It means a lot but I’ve always said it’s about the team and I’m happy to help. Its a bonus. It’s not something I ever thought would be possible. I feel like I’ve been a little bit off but it’s been one of those years where nothing seemed to come off. I rested a bit to play with the energy the Ryder Cup deserves and I was so happy we played the way we did.”

1612 Make that 16.5 as Sergio Garcia beats Rickie Fowler 2&1. He may not have enjoyed the best year but he’s certainly justified his inclusion this week.

Europe 16.5 USA 9.5

1610 The gap is ever-widening as Henrik Stenson beats Bubba Watson 5&4.

Europe 15.5 USA 9.5

1607 Molinari, whose win against Mickelson took Europe to their 14.5 target, told Sky Sports Golf: “This means so much. More than Majors, more than anything. It’s hard not to get emotional when you think about the other players. It’s been an incredible week. They had probably the strongest team ever, but it’s been unreal. I just tried to do things well and be professional and I had an amazing partner in Tommy. It’s been amazing. It’s been a long week but I stepped it up when I had to…just amazing!”

1605 Winning captain Bjorn told Sky Sports Golf: “I’m a little bit prouder than I was on Thursday night. It’s been easy. The 12 of them have been unbelievable – the way they have bonded. They were determined and set out to do a job themselves. They wanted it desperately and stood up. There are so many great stories this week. This is such a special event and the experience when you have the right attitude can be such a great thing.”

1601 Mickelson concedes and Molinari has it in the bag…as do Europe! Francesco Molinari beats Phil Mickelson 4&2. Let the party begin!

Europe 14.5 USA 9.5

1559 Who is going to hole the winning putt?

1558 It is hugs all round from Bjorn, who knows it is now only a matter of time before Europe clinch victory.

1557 Johnson needed to hole that putt from distance…and he very nearly did. But that’s another point delivered by Europe as Ian Poulter beats Dustin Johnson by 2 holes.

Europe 13.5 USA 9.5

Rahm celebrates his victory against Woods
Rahm celebrates his victory against Woods (Adam Davy/PA)

1551 Garcia drops a shot on the 15th. He’s now one-up against Fowler.1551 Brilliant shot from Poulter on the 18th. He deserves the standing ovation.

1543 Sergio follows Fowler into the water!

1542 Molinari moves three-up with four to play.

1539 Poulter misses a putt on the 17th which would have won the hole. The crowd were poised! That’s another great shot from Molinari against Mickelson. Europe are on the brink.

1534 An emotional Rahm had lots going through his mind after beating Woods: “No, it doesn’t get any better. It was only fitting these two shots at 17 and make the putt. There’s a lot going on for me at the moment. The memory of Seve (Ballesteros). To beat Tiger – one of the greatest – it’s the best feeling of my life.”

1530 Stenson wins the 11th to move four-up on Watson. Impressive stuff from the Swede today.

1528 Rahm sinks a short putt meaning Jon Rahm beats Tiger Woods 2&1.

Europe 12.5 USA 9.5

1526 For the second time Johnson holes a putt from around 60 feet. Poulter misses meaning he is now just one-up going to the 17th.

1524 Great shot from Rahm, who three-putted the previous hole, and he now has the chance to win the hole and Europe another point.

1522 Olesen was delighted to beat Spieth, and told Sky Sports Golf: “It was massive. Getting down to the first tee I really wanted to win. It’s been unbelievable. The crowd went mental. It’s been so much fun.”

1519 Spieth lips out and Thorbjorn Olesen beats Jordan Spieth 5&4.

Europe 11.5 USA 9.5

1518 Finau was pleased with his performance against Fleetwood, who had been one of Europe’s most impressive players. He told Sky Sports Golf: “It feels great. I played incredible golf today. It was really hard for Tom to get in the match. I’m really pleased with my performance. Let’s see what happens, but I’ve done my part now. It will be fun to watch, hopefully our guys can pull through.”

1517 Simpson was pleased to get one over on good friend Rose. He told Sky Sports Golf: “It’s tough. Justin’s their best player, I look up to him and he’s been a friend for a while. What a great player, he’s been leading those Europeans for a long time now. The up and down on two was kind of a flip. Early in the round was big for me this week. I’m excited.”

1516 An emotional Casey said of his display: “Brooks has won a couple of majors this year, he’s world player of the year in my eyes. It was a classic match – you always want a full point but the half was big for us in momentum. I’m very proud to turn that match around and get a half point. The crowd was awesome – I’m not going to be as teary as yesterday but it still gets me! It means a lot to me,” he told Sky Sports Golf.

1514 Johnson has been unable to build on that monster putt – Poulter wins back-to-back holes and, as you can see below, is now one up. Rahm leads Woods by one with two to play while Molinari, after a bit of a wobble, has restored a two-up cushion over Mickelson. Reed is three up on Hatton.

1510 Here is how it stands, then:

Rory McIlroy v Justin Thomas 1up
Paul Casey Halved Brooks Koepka
Justin Rose v Webb Simpson 3&2
2up Jon Rahm v Tiger Woods
Tommy Fleetwood v Tony Finau 6&4
1upIan Poulter v Dustin Johnson
4up Thorbjorn Olesen v Jordan Spieth
2up Sergio Garcia v Rickie Fowler
1up Francesco Molinari v Phil Mickelson
Tyrrell Hatton v Patrick Reed 2up
3up Henrik Stenson v Bubba Watson
Alex Noren v Bryson DeChambeau 1up

Europe 10.5 USA 9.5

1500 Fleetwood misses from long range and Tony Finau beats Tommy Fleetwood 6&4.

Europe 10.5 USA 9.5

1456 And breathe! After all that, here is what Justin Thomas had to say on Sky Sports after winning via Rory McIlroy’s last-hole meltdown:

“It was an extremely unfitting way for that match to end. I’m very happy I got the point for the team but I didn’t want to get it like that.

“I’d have liked a little more red up there but hopefully they’ll look up there and see I got that point. You can feel it a little bit out here, the American roars are a little different to the European roars – for good reason – and I’m hoping to go hear some more.”

1454 Rose holes a good one at 16 but Simpson responds to seal the match – Webb Simpson beats Justin Rose 3&2.

Europe 10.5 USA 8.5

1453 Well played Brooks Koepka. Casey’s putt is good but stays high and the American holes out nervelessly – Paul Casey halves with Brooks Koepka.

Europe 10.5 USA 7.5

1450 Koepka plays an excellent bunker shot and Casey may have to hole his testing putt to win the match. Rahm moves two up on Woods after 14.

1448 Unlike McIlroy before him, Casey hits two nice shots to find the green while Koepka finds a greenside bunker. Advantage Europe in that one.

1447 Elsewhere on the course, Casey won the 17th to also go down the last all square, Rahm restored his lead at 13 and Mickelson and Spieth have pulled holes back to trail by two and four respectively.

1442 That means a 4-1 record for Thomas to finish his maiden Ryder Cup. Well played young man.

Another rookie is set for the same record as Tommy Fleetwood trails Tony Finau dormie five. He does at least hole out at 13 to keep the match going.

1438 There is the handshake and Justin Thomas beats Rory McIlroy 1up.

Europe 10 USA 7.

1436 And for his next trick, McIlroy slashes out across the fairway and straight into the water. He had to go for it, but that will be a sad end to a pulsating lead-out match. Thomas makes sure with a stone-dead approach.

1432 Rory is plugged high in the face as well, and his chop out drops back into the sand. Surely that will be the first point to America now. Koepka is one up on Casey with two to play as well.

1428 An astonishing long-range birdie putt from Johnson at 11 gives takes him one up after Poulter lips out. Advantage Justin Thomas in the top game as McIlroy finds a fairway bunker.

1425 Patrick Reed restores his one-up lead and for the first time, there is more red than blue on the leaderboard. McIlroy holds his nerve for a crucial half on the 17th to go down the last all square.

1421 Tiger Woods levels against Jon Rahm with a fine putt. He celebrates with another fist-pump – could that be a big moment? It means the situation on course is all square – both sides up in four matches, with four level. DeChambeau doubles his lead while Watson pulls one back against Stenson.

1417 Molinari restores his three-hole lead on Mickelson while Rose pulls back to two down against Simpson, whose approach at 13 looked like it found the water. Johnson levels against Poulter in match six but Olesen moves five up.

1410 Hot start for Henrik Stenson, who wins three straight holes with birdies to go three up after five against Watson. Perhaps even more significantly, Hatton quickly levels against Reed with birdie at six.

1406 Thomas putts first and it somehow just stays up – and then McIlroy lips out! Not sure how neither of those dropped, although McIlroy’s did look a tentative stroke. Fleetwood pulls one back with a long birdie putt as Finau lips out – still four down though.

1402 Excellent approaches at 15 by McIlroy and Thomas. They are the only match all square, with Europe up in six and down in five.

1400 Bryson DeChambeau is one up after three in the final match against Alex Noren – and Phil Mickelson has come to the party! He holes a long, long birdie putt at six to peg Molinari back to two up. And can we talk about Thorbjorn Olesen being four up after eight against Jordan Spieth?

1357 Finau is five up at the turn, and he and Fleetwood have yet to halve a single hole! Elsewhere, Patrick Reed is on the board first against Tyrrell Hatton with a long birdie putt to win the fifth and go one up. Henrik Stenson is two up early on Bubba Watson.

1351 McIlroy loses his lead with a jabby effort at 14 – all square with four to play in a tense top match. That means Simpson, in the third game out on course, could easily record the day’s first point – he remains three up on a wildly out-of-sorts Justin Rose.

1340 McIlroy moves one up at the 13th and Olesen extends his lead on three-time major winner Spieth to three up – an outstanding effort so far from the Danish rookie in only his second match of the weekend. On the other side of the scoreboard, Finau now leads Fleetwood by four and Koepka moves all square with Casey in an excellent match.

1330 Finau joins Simpson at three up, while Fowler has pulled one back against Garcia and Johnson has quickly drawn level against Poulter. Here is how we stand:

Rory McIlroy A/S Justin Thomas
1up Paul Casey v Brooks Koepka
Justin Rose v Webb Simpson 3up
2up Jon Rahm v Tiger Woods
Tommy Fleetwood v Tony Finau 3up
Ian Poulter A/S Dustin Johnson
2up Thorbjorn Olesen v Jordan Spieth
1up Sergio Garcia v Rickie Fowler
2up Francesco Molinari v Phil Mickelson
Tyrrell Hatton A/S Patrick Reed
Henrik Stenson A/S Bubba Watson
Alex Noren A/S Bryson DeChambeau

1322 Rahm does enough with a big left-to-right breaker after Woods misses at seven, and Casey takes the lead with back-to-back birdies. Molinari is two up after three as Europe find their groove again – although Fleetwood is hacking his way down the seventh.

1314 Casey holes a good one to move all square with Koepka – but Fleetwood bogeys again to drop two down while Rose sends a shocking putt past the hole and off the green! Simpson takes full advantage and is three up. Poulter, meanwhile, is desperately unlucky to lip out and be pegged back to one up after a good putt by Johnson.

1305 Rahm’s long raking putt at six stays high by an inch and he and Woods halve the hole. Rose drops two down against Simpson after a similar near miss from distance – and Thomas levels against McIlroy with a dead-weight birdie putt.

1300 Poulter drains a nice left-to-righter to move two up on Johnson – and there’s a glimpse of the fist-pump and roar!

1257 Fleetwood undoes his good work with a short-range miss at the fifth as Finau goes one up again. Spieth wins the third to go all square and help build some American momentum.

1254 McIlroy gets away with it at the ninth as Thomas’ putt stays up. Francesco Molinari goes one up at the first. He has history in his sights but his opponent is already there – Phil Mickelson is playing a record 47th Ryder Cup match, beating Nick Faldo’s total. If Garcia has his way, it may not be the only Faldo record to go today…

1251 Garcia is two up after Fowler sends a short putt hurtling past at the second – his young orange-clad fan will not be enjoying the early exchanges. Simpson and Rose hole out to halve in birdie, though the Englishman’s putt took the side door.

1249 Simpson and Rose pepper the flag on six. McIlroy, though, finds deep rough and then sand at nine and is in danger of throwing his lead away. Rahm holes out in wall-of-death style to preserve his lead against Woods.

1245 Did we ever doubt Tommy Fleetwood? He wins back-to-back holes with birdies and is back to all square against Finau. Suddenly Europe are up in five and down in only two.

1240 The two Justins – Rose for Europe and Thomas for America – each cut the deficit to one in their respective matches with Simpson and McIlroy. Thorbjorn Olesen moves one up on Jordan Spieth, as does Sergio against Fowler.

1230 Dustin gets wet at the second, with Poulter playing safe to the fringe on the opposite side of the green and duly going one up. Fleetwood’s effort from way downtown comes up just short at three, but Finau lips out at the Englishman cuts the deficit to one down. Rory stays two up after a beautiful chip up to the pin at seven. Sergio Garcia and Rickie Fowler are under way.

1222 Rahm nervelessly holes out from four feet to halve the third with Woods after a long eagle putt just slid by. With half the matches now out on the course, the US are up in three to Europe’s two.

1219 Koepka holes out to move one up on Casey but McIlroy misses a chance to extend his lead over Thomas as a makeable birdie effort slides by. Johnson, who has apparently changed his putter since yesterday, halves the first with Poulter.

1215 One of Europe’s supposed bankers has a lot of work to do now as Fleetwood falls two down to Finau after a bogey-bogey start. Koepka hits his approach close at the fifth as he seeks an advantage against Casey.

1210 To surprisingly little fanfare, Ian Poulter and Dustin Johnson start their match. Koepka just misses a long one and is forced to settle for a half against Casey at the fourth, while McIlroy holes a beauty to stay two up on Thomas. Simpson, though, goes two up after three against Rose.

1205 Tony Finau punishes Fleetwood’s rare error, and the USA are one up after one. Of course, we’ve seen that script a couple of times already today.

1203 Tommy Fleetwood is human after all! He finds the bunker at the first and, like Casey before him, puts his next shot in the drink! Early problems for Europe’s four-from-four man.

1153 Jon Rahm holes a short birdie putt at the first and goes one up on Tiger Woods! Meanwhile, Casey’s approach at three threatens the hole but Rose misses a tiddler at two and goes one down to Simpson. And the first of Europe’s undefeated pair is out as Tommy Fleetwood prepares to tee off against Tony Finau.

1142 Tiger Woods gets the best reception of any American so far on the first tee, but Jon Rahm still gets the bigger roar from the crowd. both are safely away. Up ahead, McIlroy wins the third in birdie to go one up on Thomas, whose effort shaves the hole.

1138Simpson steps away from his approach as a huge cheer goes up from the second green, where Paul Casey has holed a monster! Koepka is unable to match him and once more, Europe recover from losing the first to go all square.

1130 Paul Casey is making a mess of the first, missing the green and then sending his third shot racing into the water. Koepka finds the green and two-putts safely – USA one up. Justin Rose and Webb Simpson are on the tee in game three.

1125 McIlroy converts that advantage at the second and levels the match as Thomas is unable to get up and down from the bunker. All square once again.

1120 McIlroy needs to respond – and he is safely on the green at the par-three second, while Thomas finds sand. Koepka and Casey both split the first fairway in match two.

1116 First blood USA! McIlroy’s approach was closer but Thomas holed a long birdie putt and, after the Northern Irishman missed, walks off one up to chants of “JT!”

1105 Henrik Stenson and Thorbjorn Olesen lead the grandstand at the first tee in a rousing “Thunderclap” and then the first pair are away. A patriotic look today – USA in red caps, dark blue tops and white trousers, Europe rocking an all-royal blue outfit with yellow accents. Thomas is first to tee off and finds the fairway, McIlroy follows suit and passes him by around 10 yards.

1050 A few more statistics just before we get under way:

  • Europe’s “Moliwood” partnership, Francesco Molinari and Tommy Fleetwood, became the first Europeans – and only the second pair ever, after Americans Lanny Wadkins and Larry Nelson in 1979 – to win four matches out of four in a single Ryder Cup.
  • Either one of them could become the first European player to make it a perfect five, matching Nelson’s achievement.
  • A win for Sergio Garcia over Rickie Fowler would take him past Nick Faldo as the Ryder Cup’s all-time record points scorer.
  • Europe’s eight successive points won across Friday and Saturday morning were a record under the current Ryder Cup format.

1045 Thomas, who leads the US out, and Jordan Spieth have been their team’s stand-out partnership and Butch Harmon, the respected coach and pundit, said they need more support.

“They’ve won half the points – three out of six,” he told Sky Sports. “The Woodses, the Mickelsons, the Rickie Fowlers, you can go on and on down that list – they’ve got to show up today.”

1040 Three-time captain Bernard Gallagher thinks Thomas Bjorn has “tried to win the match quite early” with his line-up.

“I think that first match between Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas could set the tone,”. Gallagher told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Sportsweek programme. “You would hope Justin Rose wins (against Webb Simpson) then you go down to the fifth match and Tommy Fleetwood against Tony Finau. Then if things aren’t going so well, you’ve got a bit of insurance with Molinari well down at nine and he’s playing Phil Mickelson.”

Tom Lehman, who captained the USA in 2006, responded: “I wouldn’t put it past Webb Simpson to pull an upset (but) a guy like Tony Finau, it’s an uphill battle for him.”

1030 Europe’s leader Rory McIlroy tells Sky Sports: “I’m feeling it a bit now, it’s a big responsibility, but once I am on the course I will settle down. As long as I focus on my own game and don’t get dragged into a screaming and shouting match I should be okay.”

1020 The United States, 10-6 down going into the singles on foreign soil, need their own version of 2012’s “Miracle of Medinah”. Luke Donald, Poulter, McIlroy, Rose and Paul Lawrie got Europe off to a 5-0 start on that occasion to erase the deficit – US captain Jim Furyk will need the likes of Thomas, Koepka and, oh, some guy called Tiger to make a similar start for his side here. America came from four behind to win in 1999 at Brookline.
