SWINDON skipper Mike Thompson said he was pleased to see his side retain some momentum with a 19-10 win over Wimborne at home.

After a break in fixtures and postponements due to the weather, Thompson feared that his teammates may have lost some of their form from earlier on in the year.

However, Thompson was left pleasantly surprised as his troops collected another win, leaving them 10th in South West One East, with 38 points from 21 contests.

“They were above us in the table before the game and now we are level on points with them so it was nice to get that result,” he said “I think we knew it was a game we should definitely target because it is a horrible journey for them.

“It’s not the best drive in the world, there is only one way for them to go.

“They were a good team, they had a big powerful squad but we knew that was what we should expect from when we played them earlier in the season.

“The boys were up for it. We have a bit of momentum and it was nice to see that it hadn’t dropped off over the last few weeks.

“We still had that with us and we were able to squeeze out another win.

“It’s hugely important that we maintain the momentum. We have Stratford-upon-Avon at the weekend and that is another one we are going to target.

“It’s an opportunity to get some thing from it and we might even be able to get a ‘W’.

“We just have to make sure we put the effort in this week and build on what we have done so far. That’s really important “We have the game on Saturday, then another one and then a week off “Most of the points were scored in he first half. Now we have only got five games left until the end of the year.”

Elsewhere in the division, Royal Wootton Bassett Town also made the most of home advantage as they secured a 30-7 win over Bicester.

Robert Cooper, Chris Rowland, Gavin Ougan, Fin Dewar and Tim Gallimore were all try scorers in the triumph at Ballards Ash.

Bassett now have a week off before returning to action on Saturday, March 24, where they travel to face county rivals Chippenham.

In Southern Counties South, Swindon College Old Boys surrendered an early 10-point advantage as they were beaten 26-20 by high-flyers Corsham.

Dorset & Wilts One North side Supermarine had a weekend to forget as they were brutally beaten 65-0 by visiting Bradford on Avon. They host Combe Down on Saturday.
