CHIPPENHAM went through to the Dorset & Wilts Cup final after a nail-biting 21-18 extra-time win over Salisbury but coach Rob Alford still found cause for complaint.

James Gibson's late, late penalty sent the Wiltshire side to an April 2 showdown with either Wootton Bassett or Swanage & Wareham at Bournemouth.

But Alford admitted: "We selected the best 15 players that were available, but this was not a great game by any means.'' A shocking start handed Salisbury an early converted try and although Gibson responded with a penalty, Chippenham trailed 7-3 at the break.

Sub John Boddington put Chippenham ahead with a try but Gibson missed the conversion and Salisbury kicked two of their own to over 13-8 clear.

Darren McMillan added Chippenham's second try to tie the scores again and force extra time. And Adie Price grabbed his side the lead with another try.

Gibson was again off-target with the boot and Liam Gilbert scored for Salisbury to level things up yet again.

However, Gibson at last found his range to send Chippenham through.
