SPEEDWAY: Let's win it for us says Moore

ANDREW Moore insists the Robins class of 2007 are not interested in re-writing the record books, claiming their pursuit of the ultimate crown is all about personal pride.

Ahead of Monday's Grand Final second leg at Coventry, the Swindon reserve is confident their six-point advantage will be enough, vowing not to let a season's worth of hard work be for nothing.

A 40-year wait for the Elite League title has been a motivating factor for the managements team this season but, while well aware of the history, Moore insists emulating former glories is at the back of his mind.

He said: "The management want it but we want it as well. They have put a lot in the press saying Swindon have not won for 40 years.

"We don't care about that, we could not care less, we want to win for ourselves.

"All the hard work we have put into it, that is why we want to win.

"We are not going to throw away a season of hard work now.

"Most of our top riders do not like losing anyway in any meeting so you can imagine how desperate they are going to be, we all are, to win the title."

Moore could only contribute three points on Monday night as Coventry kept Swindon to just a 49-43 lead at the Abbey Stadium in the play-off first leg.

Having won the regular season by six points, ahead of Robins, Coventry will be full of confidence about completing the job at fortress Brandon Stadium.

But having inflicted the Bees' only home defeat on them in May, Moore is determined to stay in upbeat mood ahead of the finale.

He said: "It is not going to be easy at all but we have to go there and be positive and not be too down about it all.

"Everyone was saying we needed 14 points and this and that but I think we did well to get where we are. We have beaten them before so we just have to go and do it again.

"We have shown we can do it but it probably won't be as easy as that because we know the reserves are strong on their own track and everyone is in top form so it will be no mean feat at all if we do beat them.

"As long as the track does not ridiculously slip and we can make starts anything can happen. I think we can do it.

"We have to believe or else there is no point in going there. We have some brilliant riders and I know Coventry will be just as worried as we are."
