DARCY Ward might have experienced some of the darkest days of his life in recent years, but the Australian will live his best today when tying the knot with fiancé Lizzie Turner.

The former Swindon Robins racer, 26, had his promising career cruelly cut short in August 2015 following a horror crash in Poland while racing for Zielona Gora – just months after the Australian had signed on loan for Alun Rossiter’s side.

Ward returned home to live on Australia’s Gold Coast with fiancé Lizzie after his treatment in Europe.

And he’s now continuing to re-build his new life with his partner, three-and-a-half years after his life-changing crash.

News of Darcy’s marriage delighted his former Swindon manager Rossiter, who told the Advertiser he was devastated to miss the occasion due to work commitments at his pub – The Southbrook Inn.

The 53-year-old former rider spoke of his admiration regarding Ward’s approach to his new way of life – stating his talent on a speedway bike was something to be admired.

Rossiter said: “I’m sure it’s been a real struggle for him, considering how young he is and his talent on a speedway bike.

“I’m sure he’s fighting hard some days, but it’s brilliant to see Darcy rebuilding his life.”

Robins legend Leigh Adams – now also restricted to a wheelchair following a crash in June 2011 – is expected to attend the wedding along with notable former riders Steve Johnston and Craig Boyce.
