SWINDON Robins have postponed their SGB Premiership opener against Belle Vue Aces on Thursday, with chairman Terry Russell keen to ensure everything runs smoothly for the new track’s opening.

It now means Alun Rossiter’s side will start their SGB Premiership campaign at Wolverhampton on Monday, April 15, before Poole Pirates’ visit on Thursday, April 18, will be their opening home fixture.

Club Chairman Terry Russell said: "We are delighted with the work which has been done, people ask why we made a later start on the work but most people know it was out of our hands.

"The effort that has gone in is remarkable but we just feel Thursday is just that little too early, so we will now start the following Thursday.

"We all want everything to be perfect when we start. We don't want to risk any problems, we want to ensure every effort has been made to ensure the track is ready and the extra few days will help us achieve that.

"We would like to thank everyone for their understanding and look forward to seeing the boys at Wolves on Monday and then back at the Abbey for a big next on the Thursday."

A new date is yet to be announced by the club.
