SWINDON Robins skipper Jason Doyle picked up six points at Saturday’s Slovenian Grand Prix as Bartosz Zmarzlik took victory on the night.

The haul, which came courtesy of two heat wins, takes Doyle’s world championship points tally to 11 for the season after he collected five in the opening round in Warsaw a fortnight ago.

Zmarzlik’s triumph in Krsko lifted him to the top of the standings on 28 points, level with fellow Polish rider Patryk Dudek. Doyle is down in 13th position.

Doyle’s night got off to a tricky start as he finished last in his opening race, however, he soon found his form with victory in his second outing.

However, the Australian was unable to build on that tally over his next two races as a pair of fourth-place finishes failed to yield any additional points.

Doyle was at least able to finish his night on a positive night, though, as he triumphed in his fifth and final outing to make it six points for the meeting overall.

Zmarzlik, meanwhile, dropped just two points on his way to a 13-point haul from his five heats before booking a spot in the final when finishing second to Warsaw GP runner-up Leon Madsen.

A hesitant start from Madsen granted Martin Vaculik the lead in the evening’s final race, but Zmarzlik, who scored 10 points in the series’ opening round, switched lines on the second lap to take the lead to take victory ahead of the Slovakian. Dane Madsen was third ahead of Dudek.

Zmarzlik said: “I’m very happy, this place has been a little unlucky for me before. But I can leave here and head home very happy.

“I’m starting with a different set-up, and my starts are not bad. But this result is now history, and I’m looking forward to the next round in Prague.

“All the time I was looking at Martin Vaculik and thinking where he is likely to go. I wanted to make sure the bike was that little bit faster on the straight. Everything worked, and I’m very happy to pick up the win.”

The series now moves onto its third round in two weeks’ time as Prague’s Marketa Stadium hosts the Czech Republic FIM Speedway Grand Prix.
