SWINDON Robins’ SGB Premiership fixture away at Ipswich Witches was called off early on Thursday morning following persistent rain over the area in the days leading up to the meeting.

Alun Rossiter’s side were due to head to Foxhall Stadium aiming to make it back-to-back league victories after their 50-40 home win over King’s Lynn Stars last Thursday.

But with further rain forecast for the remainder of the day, Ipswich took the early decision to postpone the meeting. A new date for the fixture is set to be announced in the coming days.

Swindon team manager Rossiter fully understood the decision to schedule the meeting for a drier day, but was left feeling sorry for new recruit Rasmus Jensen after the Dane discovered news of the postponement minutes after landing in the UK on Thursday morning.

Rossiter said: “It would have been nice to get another meeting under our belts, but it is what it is, and it can’t be helped.

“It’s not as if any of the boys are not riding, they’re all riding in various places, so I’m not too worried.

“But it’s frustrating for Rasmus. He flew into Stanstead at 9am on Thursday morning and he’s now got to wait seven hours inside Stanstead for a return flight back to Denmark.

“He would have flown back on Friday morning anyway, but it’s frustrating for him.”

The Robins are scheduled to return to action on Monday night as they host league leaders Belle Vue Aces at the Abbey Stadium.
