ALUN Rossiter has issued a rallying call to supporters of the Swindon Robins ahead of Thursday’s crunch Supporters’ Cup tie against King’s Lynn Stars at the Abbey Stadium (7.30pm).

Victory for the Robins over Peter Schroeck’s Stars will secure a spot in the competition’s two-legged final against northern group winners Belle Vue Aces.

Following the Robins' 50-40 SGB Premiership win over King’s Lynn at the Abbey Stadium earlier this month, Rossiter’s refreshed squad have every reason to enter Thursday’s tie full confidence.

But Rossiter insists a large turnout of supporters can help inspire Swindon to their first domestic final in almost two years.

“We need to win and make the final,” said Rossiter.

“To make the final of any national competition is quite an achievement in itself.

“We need to see a big turnout of supporters, it will be a cracking meeting and I expect King’s Lynn to give us a real tough test.

“Reaching the final would also be a nice reward for everyone who has worked so hard at the stadium this year.

“The new track is settling down nicely and the racing will just get better and better from here.”

Swindon made a shaky start to their Supporters’ Cup campaign after being held to a draw at home by Poole Pirates.

But victory on the road in Dorset less than 24 hours later put Rossiter’s outfit in the driving seat for qualification from their group.

Respectable performances away at Ipswich and King’s Lynn, coupled with home victories over the same two teams, mean the Robins now only have to defeat the Stars on home shale to book a final spot.

The Stars will travel with an abundance of class to their name – including British Champion Robert Lambert and former Grand Prix star Craig Cook.

Rossiter added: “They have riders who know how to get around this track now.

“It’s going to be a really competitive night of racing.”
