ALUN Rossiter is not prepared to take a chance on Adam Ellis tonight when Wolverhampton Wolves visit the Abbey Stadium, and will rest the British youngster should his return from injury not go to plan.

Ellis broke his collarbone while racing for Championship club Birmingham Brummies on July 17, but he made his return to the saddle last night for the Midlands club.

The 23-year-old had full confidence in his ability to perform at a capable level, but Robins boss Rossiter made the French-born racer aware that the option to sit out this evening’s SGB Premiership meeting is available should he deem it necessary.

Rossiter said: “It’s an important meeting for us, and we can’t afford to take that chance if he’s not 100 per cent fit.

“Adam is confident he’ll be OK, and I’m not going to doubt him. But if he has any problems after riding at Birmingham then I’ve told him to let me know as soon as possible.

“It’s not a must-win meeting, but we want to keep Wolves behind us while sneaking up on the top three.”

Wolverhampton travel to Wiltshire in a rich vein of form having crushed Belle Vue Aces 54-36 at Monmore Green on Monday night.

Rory Schlein, Kyle Howarth and Jacob Thorsell all posted paid double-figure scores and the result lifted Pete Adams’ side into the play-off frame, dropping Swindon – who have two meetings in hand – to fifth.

Denying Wolves any league points has therefore been set as a priority by Robins chief Rossiter.

He said: “Our goal is to win by seven points, we’re more than capable of doing that.

“Feedback on the track recently has been excellent, and it makes a huge difference when that is right.

“The atmosphere in the pits is much better when the track is right. You expect the surface to be the way you like it to be when you arrive.

“Attitude in the pits has been more positive, it’s been a happier place.

“It doesn’t take much to keep riders happy – preparing a good track is a simple job. And it helps with confidence too.

“If a racer has the confidence to go out and ride on it, it injects that bit of energy into the team.”
