ALUN Rossiter insists the fans are at the forefront of the Swindon hierarchy's thoughts as rain continues to play havoc with the Robins' Elite League schedule.

Last night's home clash against Eastbourne was called off yesterday morning following an overnight downpour, meaning the weather has now intervened to stop Swindon either starting or completing eight meetings in a row.

This period of multiple postponements means meetings will have to be squeezed in at a later date, but Rossiter is reluctant to hold two fixtures inside a week at Blunsdon, revealing he is concerned about the strain on supporters' wallets.

“I don't want to get to the stage where we're putting on two meetings in a week because people just can't afford it, especially in the current climate,” he told the Advertiser.

“We’ve got to think about what the supporters want but it’s a risky thing to do, some people will go for it and some won’t.

“If we have to do it then we have to do it, but we’ll think about the supporters because we need them.

“There’s a good feeling about the place at the moment and I’m hoping that means they want to come down and see us.

“We'll just have to play it by ear and hope for a break in the weather.

“It may be that we have to run against the Olympics but I'm not too worried about that, as we're on a Thursday I don't think it will affect us too much.”

While Swindon were unable to confirm whether eight meetings off in a row was a club record, Rossiter, a servant at Blunsdon since he was a mascot as a youngster, admitted he could not recall a worse run.

“We had a bit of rain in the first few years I rode here but I've never known a period like this. Eight-rain-offs has been a nightmare,” he said.

Swindon's next Elite League outing is at Lakeside a week today, with a trip to Eastbourne's Arlington circuit following just 24 hours later.

Rossiter added that the Robins “might have to try” to organise a meeting for this coming Thursday, as the encounter against Peterborough on Thursday, May 24 is the next scheduled Abbey Stadium meeting.

The Robins also have a free Thursday on May 31, so that could also be an option when the club considers when to reschedule.
