BOSS Alun Rossiter has backed his Swindon number one Hans Andersen to come good ahead of the Czech Grand Prix tomorrow.

The Robins skipper has scored just 11 points in the opening two rounds in Auckland and Leszno, but has a positive record in Prague.

A victory in 2006 was followed by a runner-up berth in 2008, and the Blunsdon man may well fancy his chances of a return to form on the world championship stage on Saturday.

That is certainly a view held by Rossiter, who believes Andersen has been worth more than his performances suggest.

“I don’t think he’s rode that bad so far,” said the Swindon boss.

“He’s been there or thereabouts, but his gating hasn’t been all that good and you’ve got to gate.

“If you can get out in front you have an 80 per cent chance of staying there, it’s fine margins with these guys.

“Hans has come back into the GPs and he’s certainly showing he’s more like the Hans of old.

“I’m confident he can go out and deliver, he’s certainly showing signs and he’s beating good riders, and I’m not saying that because he’s my rider.”

Before the latest spate of postponements, Andersen was in excellent form for Swindon and bagged a paid maximum in the Robins’ last outing against Coventry in mid-April.

But Rossiter warned that heavy domestic points-scoring did not always translate into top-level international success.

“The GPs are far more intense than the British leagues,” said Rossiter.

“There isn’t a lot of room for error and there’s almost no difference between winning and losing, if you make a mistake, that’s it.”

Andersen was given a wild card into the Grand Prix this year and is determined to show that he is worth his place in the world championship.

He said: “Getting a wild card comes with a little extra pressure and I definitely want to prove to the organisers that they chose the right rider.

“Winning GPs is a rush and there’s no better feeling. I want to get back to that feeling straight away and getting back to that would prove to the organisers that they picked the right man.”
