THE game started with neither side looking like a real threat and both knocking the ball around at a slow intensity.

The first chance owent to the visitors when a corner came into the box and there was a scramble but eventually it found the safe hands of Reice Charles-Cook.

Newport then had another chance through Dan Butler who curled a shot from inside the box which went just wide of the far post being another lucky escape for sluggish Town.

Five minutes before half-time Matty Taylor hit a powerful shot from 35 yards out straight into the hands of the Newport goalie.

THERE was nothing really threatening for either defence for the first 15 minutes of the second half until the County captain Joss Labadie fired a volley wide from the edge of the box.

Within a minute Town had a run up the other end and nearly scored after Keshi Anderson crossed the ball in and it went straight under the foot of Harry Smith, who was likely to score if contact was made.

Ten minutes later Newport’s Mathew Dolan whipped in a corner which found the head of Ben Tozer and went into the back of the net.

The Robins brought on James Brophy with two minutes to go he made an immediate impact when he skilled up three men then shot just wide but taking a deflection to go out for a corner.

The corner was taken by Taylor and it was perfect for Matt Preston who hit the crossbar with a header the rebound was cleared making it two defeats in a row for the men in red.
