MATT Preston does not want to see Swindon Town relinquish their positive momentum when they travel to Lincoln City this afternoon.

Town make the trip to Sincil Bank hunting a third successive victory in League Two as well as a sixth win in seven games.

That hefty haul of points has catapulted David Flitcroft’s side into the play-off places and they are now only two points behind second-placed Wycombe Wanderers.

However, the Imps are handily placed themselves and defeat for Swindon today would see them drop below their hosts in the standings.

Although this afternoon’s game starts a run of crucial fixtures against promotion rivals, with games against Accrington Stanley, Mansfield Town and Wycombe still to come, centre back Preston prefers not to think about the bigger picture just yet.

“Our record is good at the moment and we have definitely built some good momentum going into Lincoln and we have just got to try to push on and get another result,” said Preston.

“A lot of people believe that February is almost a make-or-break month for teams but I don’t really like to look at the table too much, I just like to look at each game as it comes.

“If we get a performance in each game and we get a result in them then the table looks after itself.

“The messages we are getting at the start of the game are to not think about the result, just the performance and to stick to our individual tasks.

“If we do that, we are going to come away with the team performance and going to get the win.”

Experienced defenders Ben Purkiss and Matt Taylor came into Town’s back-line on Tuesday night and helped the team to a 1-0 win at Stevenage and Preston believes their presence can be a crucial component for Swindon at that end of the pitch.

He said: “There is a lot of experience in the team and playing alongside them, they can tell you things that you need and help you through the game.”
