SWINDON Town legend Don Rogers is celebrating his 76th birthday today.
Arguably the best player ever to pull on a Swindon shirt, Rogers cemented himself as a club legend when scoring twice in the 1969 League Cup final - the club's only major trophy to date.
Third-division Town went into the showpiece event as heavy underdogs against Division One Arsenal, but a superb performance from goalkeeper Peter Downsborough at one end helped Rogers to be remembered as the hero down the other in extra-time.
In front of almost 100,000 live spectators, Roger Smart put Town ahead in the first half on a boggy Wembley surface. Attempting to hang on, Swindon conceded in the 86th minute when Bobby Gould pounced on a rare mistake by Downsborough.
Yet it would matter not in the end as Rogers struck twice in extra-time to help Town lift the League Cup on their first appearance at Wembley Stadium.
As everyone associated with Swindon Town wishes Don Rogers a happy birthday, watch the game he will always be remembered for below.
