A FINAL magnificent total of £3039.09 has been collected in Wroughton during the 2008 Poppy Appeal. Although this is slightly less that last year’s appeal it is, nonetheless, an excellent result in these tough economic times and is a reflection of the generosity of the people of Wroughton.

It is sad that there is still conflict but it is also extremely heartening to know that people recognise the needs of others and continue to support us so well, so thank you to everyone.

On December 16 a service presentation at the Ellendune Community Centre was made to some of the volunteers. As there is no Royal British Legion presence in Wroughton, Coun Ann Richards, chairman of the parish council, kindly made presentations to Terry Moss, Ida Morton and David Hayward, Five-year certificates. Joyce Seal a 10-year certificate and Gloria Green a 15-year service Poppy brooch. Joyce Webber, from the Ellendune Community Centre, was also thanked for her great display in the foyer of the Ellendune, which attracts many donations. These years of service are very much appreciated and, again, show the commitment to this very worthy cause by local people willing to give their time so generously. Thank you very much indeed.
