IN response to the letter from RF Ashby, (SA, Jan 22, 2009).

Although the land at Coate has been developed in the past (Lawns area), one has to say ‘enough is enough’ with regard to further development and construction in that area.

RF Ashby states in his letter that no-one objected to the building of the Lawns estate all those years ago so why the fuss now?

Presumably nobody objected at the time as there were far more green areas available.

Today, of course, that is not the case.

If such developments are allowed to continue, where will it all end? And I don’t just mean Coate.

Yes society needs more housing, but not at the expense of green areas such as Coate that most of us not only enjoy but actually need.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I believe people should make a stand to protect areas that they love such as Coate, not just shrug their shoulders and accept their destruction as inevitable, as RF Ashby seems to have done.
