FOLLOWING the appointments to the mayoral positions of councillors Wren and Darker, may I add a few thoughts on unluckily numbered event?

Firstly I supported Sinead Darker when she was originally elected in Central ward several years ago. They must thank people like me have short memories. Both of these councillors were elected on Labour tickets but ambition for status motivated them to cross parties and join the Tories. Neither of them held elections on those occasions but continued on the council.

Coun Darker was reselected for a nice safe Stratton ward and with full Tory backing Councillor Wren remained in the ruling cabinet.

They betrayed the original Labour voters who put them on the road to where they are now. I know mayors are supposed to be above local politics for one year, but it is important that certain facts not be forgotten in all the euphoria. I know their former Labour councillors have not forgotten the desertions and I support councillors Pajak and Montaut for withholding false praise.

The only reason the Tories get away with contempt for many local voters is because there is no election this year. In this they are in my humble opinion no better ethically than those now in Parliament who are pilloried daily in the media.

In case I am accused by the usual Tory chorus of being politically blinkered, all who are guilty of financial impropriety will answer to their voters in this or next year.
