WITH the recent scenes of turmoil in Egypt and Tunisia, which no civilised society wishes to endure, or even watch happening. Adding the fact that the people in power cannot now deceive parts of the world what is going on in the rest of it. I speak in general on that one.

Communication being worldwide in this day and age the media now ask is this the beginning of the domino effect?

I recently read that two Conservative Prime Ministers, namely Harold Macmillan and Ted Heath were always terrified of taking the working classes too far. They had sleepless nights fearing civil unrest if they made the wrong decisions.

The author of this piece said the reason for this was that both men had experience of military service in charge of men, the vast majority of these men being from the working classes. This experience is thin on the ground in the present cabinet. Perhaps the present incumbents of 10 Downing Street and all ruling council bodies should take heed of those two late prime ministers’ phobias. Particularly when imposing harsh cuts on the front line services, the genuinely needy, disabled and vulnerable. While the bankers, bureaucrats and the elite as the film said ‘carry on relentless’.

God forbid the domino effect ever reaches these islands.
