IN a way I am pleased the Government in reducing grant to councils is forcing them to look closely at current budgets and see exactly where our money is going and what savings can be made. if people feel councils don’t have waste they are sadly mistaken.

I have followed the debate on adult social care with interest and note the council had a service level agreement (contract) with the staff, I understand, to deliver 1,800 hours of care a week to our elderly residents. According to what I have read they only provide 500 hours for the money they are being paid. Perhaps we should be told why this is.

This cannot be allowed to continue and I understand they were warned last year to increase the delivery hours or the contract would not be awarded. They have failed and now the hours are being transferred to another provider.

Those who want to continue caring will be able to get jobs as I understand there are vacancies that will need filling.
