Prompted by a tweet - oh the joys of social media - I thought I'd do a quick post about Swindon's Gilbert & Sullivan society.

Now I know G&S isn't to everyone's taste but I absolutely love everything about and have done since being introduced to 'The Mikado' when at school. 'Behold the Lord High Executioner, a personage of noble rank and station...'

Being a 'words' person I love how G&S play with words, the puns and rhymes they employed.  They were so clever and witty and actually, timeless. They were the sharpest of political and social satirists and really, their satire is still relevant today. Nothing much changes under the sun and especially not the machinations of politics.

So here in Swindon we are very blessed with light opera societies, with both the G&S society and indeed SALOS - Swindon Light Operatic Society. I've seen productions of both groups and they are both just amazing.

So further proof, if proof were needed, that there is sooooo much super stuff in Swindon. Yay!

Swindon's G&S society can be found on the ubiquitous Facebook, on the Twittersphere - @SwindonGS and of course, on the web.

Right ... where did I put that Gilbert & Sullivan CD ... 'I am the very model of a modern major general...'
