LUKE Williams’ search for his first win as full-time Swindon Town boss moves into another week as his side continues to sleepwalk to the end of the season.

Thanks to a run of seven games without a win, Town find themselves facing a small chance of being dragged into the fight to stay in League One – making this weekend’s home game with 15th-placed Bury a significant one.

If Town take three points, Williams finally ends his search for a win, and we can breath a sigh of relief knowing safety is all but confirmed.

However, if we suffer another setback and other results go against us, we could be one defeat away from sliding into the bottom four.

With the potential of a messy end to the campaign, having your best players fit for the run-in is vital.

Hopefully, Jonathan Obika and Nicky Ajose will be back in the first XI after recent lay-offs – their absence has been painfully obvious, leaving Jermaine Hylton to lead the line as the solo striker, a tough job for any player, let alone someone short of game-time and form.

It seems Swindon may have to end the season without goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux due to an ongoing muscle injury.

The Town boss said that it’s looking likely the Liverpool loanee has played his last game for Swindon, at least for this season.

After trying to sign the young keeper on a permanent deal last summer, Lee Power hasn’t hidden his desire to bring Vigouroux to Wiltshire on a full-time basis throughout the season.

And I can’t decide if that’ll be a good or bad move for Town.

There’s no doubting Vigouroux is a good keeper. His shot-stopping has been first class, and has kept us in many games, but he does have a touch of David James about him.

James was a great keeper but he was famous for his flapping at crosses and all-round bad decision-making.

With goalkeepers known to enjoy their best years between the ages of 27-32, Vigouroux has time on his side to improve.

The club must see huge potential in him if they want to shell out the rumoured six-figure sum needed to try and prise him away from Anfield.
