Awards student's experiments are big success

STUDENTS at Isambard Community School scooped up two awards at a science, technology, engineering and maths event at the University of the West of England.

The youngsters visited the Bristol-based university for the first Super Sonic @ The Big Bang event, organised by Education Business Partnership Year 7 pupils Calista Cahill and Ben Spooner both picked up £50 in vouchers after winning awards for Best Communication and Best Presentation in a competition where students were asked to showcase unique experiments created in school.

Teacher Lucy Lucas, said: “I am very proud of the children and what they have done, especially as they have done it all themselves through our science club. We are always trying to put inspiring things together to encourage students to take part, so winning two awards means a lot for Isambard School.”

The students joined more than 600 students from around the south west for the event, which involved inspiring talks from high profile scientists in a variety of fields.

Janie Harper, events co-ordinator for Education Business Partnership – South West said: “Both students and teachers said that they had enjoyed the day and been provided with a fantastic eye-opener into the world of science.”
