INTERESTING and diverse authors are being celebrated at Swindon’s Central Library this spring.

The Regent Circus library hosted a talk by Lynda Warren on Wednesday, entitled The Mystery of Agatha Christie. The presentation explored the life of the queen of crime, her writing style and the development of some of her most famous characters, including Poirot and Miss Marple.

The next talk will take place on March 6 when Ron Bateman will discuss Orwell: Spain And The Road to 1984. Ron, who is a founding member of The Orwell Society, will be discussing the world events that influenced George Orwell to write his classic novel Nineteen Eighty-Four and suggest reasons why the author felt compelled to warn us of a possible post-totalitarian nightmare.

The talk starts at 7pm in the 2nd Floor Reading Room at the Central Library and tickets are on sale now from all council libraries, priced at £1.50 for library members and £2.50 for non-members.

Further details of the Central Library’s Learning about Authors series will be available soon, including talks about Indian writer Raindranath Tagore on April 26 and Jane Austen in October.
