A 48-YEAR-OLD man was hospitalised on Sunday night after being assaulted by a group of men wielding a baseball bat.
Wiltshire Police were alerted by a member of the public to the incident, which took place off Somerville Road, Walcot, at 8pm.
The man was assaulted by a number of other men and received serious facial injuries.
He was taken to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon where he received medical treatment for a possible fractured nose and jaw.
Officers conducted a wide area search but none of the suspects were found.
A forensic team also attended the scene to collect any potential evidence.
A number of inquiries are continuing, including a review of all CCTV footage.
