AN all-female Adver team is preparing to follow a 15km moonlight trail dressed in an array of neon outfits at the annual Prospect Starlight Walk this simmer as part of the 160 Appeal.
Deputy editor Pauline Leighton, imaging manager Pauline Cole, features editor Michelle Tompkins, writers Emma Dunn and Liz Mackley, and their colleagues in newspaper sales, manager Rachael Youd, Angie Blackford, Sharon Oaten and Shelly Hartnoll will join hundreds of fundraisers on June 28 at the most highly anticipated event on the Wroughton charity’s calendar.
All funds collected by the group at this year’s Light up the Night themed stroll will go towards the appeal launched by the newspaper in February to secure £160,000 for the hospice by December.
Inspired by her many conversations with Prospect patients and their families, Emma jumped at the opportunity to support the care provided by the charity.
“I have heard nothing but praise for Prospect Hospice since I started working at the Adver four years ago,” she said. “During interviews with people battling illnesses, and interviews with bereaved families, I have been amazed by the work that Prospect does.
“I wanted to join the Starlight Walk to help raise funds so Prospect can continue its care and support for many years to come. It looks like it is going to be a great night and I can’t wait to take part.”
Walkers will have a choice between a 15 km and a 10 km route.
Rachael will be covering the trail in memory of her grandfather, who died at Prospect Hospice 14 years ago.
“I have never done the walk before but it’s always something I have meant to do it following the death of my granddad, who died in the hospice 14 years ago. Reading all about the 160 appeal in the Swindon Advertiser has inspired me to get walking this year.”
Registration is £15.
Participants are asked to set themselves a suggested fundraising target of £100.
