AN unforgettable day at the bingo with her family by her side gave the late Yvonne Woolf one final precious memory to hold on to, thanks to the Christmas Wish appeal.

Last year, the Adver asked readers to nominate people they believed truly deserved a treat over the festive period.

The 73-year-old was put forward by granddaughter Kimberley Newbold, who asked for one simple thing: help allow Yvonne to return one last time to her beloved Gala Bingo hall in Greenbridge. This was something she had not been able to do since being diagnosed with lung and brain cancer in August 2013.

“She had been through a hell of a lot,” said Kim-berley, 32, of Rodbourne.

“She was absolutely mad for bingo and she used to go every week but when she was diagnosed she found it difficult to go.

“Going to bingo seems like a small thing but it was what she loved. She really enjoyed it and we can’t thank the Adver enough.”

Yvonne, a great-grandmother of seven, grandmother-of-15 and mother- of-four, was accompanied by Kimberley and another granddaughter, Danielle Bird. They were seated at a VIP table in front of the stage and served champagne and a complimentary two-course dinner.

Yvonne was also treated to a £100 shopping spree at Matalan, where she picked an outfit worthy of her much-anticipated trip to bingo. She passed away surrounded by her family shortly afterwards, on February 12.

What started as a Christmas Wish for Yvonne also ended up being a gift for Kimberley as it is now one of her most treasured memories of her caring grandmother.

“She passed away on February 12 and the bingo and trip to Matalan was her final outing,” she said.

“When we speak of the last memories we have of nan we all go back to that day at the bingo. It was amazing she was able to have that moment of joy.”

The Adver is now urging readers to nominate a special person or group to receive a treat as part of this year’s Christmas Wish Appeal, which will run from December 11 to Christmas Eve.
