A HOME makeover was a Christmas Wish come true for a mother who always put others’ needs before her own, even through loss and grief.

Evelyn Livingstone was left speechless as decorators from Wall2Wall armed with rollers and brushes took over her Watchfield home, repainting her hallway, stairs and landing with paint donated by Brewers of Swindon.

While they tackled the walls, Carpets4Less fitted a new carpet, as part of the Christmas Wish campaign.

The 67-year-old was nominated by her daughter, Claire, who felt her mum deserved a treat after losing both of her parents and her husband in the last few years.

“My mum is amazing and always putting others before herself, and will often go without to help others,” said Claire.

“Life has thrown a lot at her in recent years.

“My mum usually does her own decorating but I felt she deserved this so much. I can never thank her enough for what she has done for me and everyone else. “As well as working full time and as well as having a heart of gold, she never puts herself first.

“I can’t thank everyone enough for granting a Christmas Wish for my mum.”

Again this year, the Adver is calling on readers to nominate kind-hearted loved ones for the Christmas Wish appeal.

Evelyn, who works as a cleaner, helped to look after her father after he was taken ill nine years ago. She cared for him until he passed away.

She also helped to look after her mother until she died.

Evelyn’s husband, Patrick, died of lung cancer in May 2010 at the age of 63.

Speaking following the revamp last winter, she said: “It’s amazing, things like this don’t happen very often. I couldn't have done this myself – it looks brilliant.”
