8:26pm

Sadly that's the end of this evening's web chat, but before we go Alun Rossiter has a message for the club's fans.

Swindon Advertiser: Alun Rossiter

ALUN ROSSITER

"We need you to back us and get behind the team and support their local club. We have continuity this year with the fixtures because there were too many gaps, and with the possibility of the new stadium coming it would be great to see out the old one in style.

"I would have loved to have stayed longer but I have to go and pick my daughter up from dancing.

"Here's to a great 2014."

kibbutz94 says

Alun, thanks for all your hard work and for the success you've brought the Robins. After 30+ years following the Robins, 2012 was a success long overdue and in large part down to you. Hopefully you will continue to be the heart and soul of the club for many years. Congrats on the GB job also. Enough compliments for now :-), what is the strategy behind doubling up and where do you see it heading in the future? It appears to be a sticking plaster for the shortage of riders and seems to be creating more problems than its worth e.g. Nick, Jason D, Ashley etc. Thanks, Andrew

AR: It's the lack of riders over here, that's the issue. I can see it getting less and less but at the moment it's here until we get more riders coming on.

I can see klindt being a good signing is he up for the challenge ahead ive heard hes got alot of machinery this season.but with the signing of klindt there is alot of presure on our 3rd heat leader do you agree?

AR: Not at all, I'm very happy with my team. We have riders who can ride all kinds of tracks so we will be fine.

Swindon Advertiser: Nicolai Klindt

speedwaytrucker says

i think they should bring back the golden helmet match race for an extra bit of entertainment what do you think?

AR: We can't get the riders to do it.

8:17pm

AR: The rider chose not to have it.

8:16pm

AR: Yes, as long as the Adver will have me!

AW: We will.

8:15pm

8:14pm Fri 24 Jan 14

archeroo says

Is it possible the club could organise track days at the abbey for supporters to have a go and possibly raise a few quid plus allow the kids to get interested?

AR: There is a company who have been on to me about coming up and doing that so we'll have to wait and see.

8:14pm

AR: We're not constantly changing but we try and change to make things better. In real terms we need to simplify it, we know that. We don't always get it right but we are trying to make the sport better.

8:13pm

AR: Not at the present stadoum due to the FIM license and the posts and metal fence around the track. They're not up to FIM. If we move then we will be FIM inscribed.

8:12pm

AR: That's a really difficult one. Leigh Adam was hard at times because he was so set in his ways. Don't get me wrong, he wasn't a pain, but sometimes you had to keep going back to him. Hans was a bit tough at times too.

Swindon Advertiser: Former Swindon Robins rider Leigh Adams with Alun RossiterSwindon Advertiser: Hans Andersen
LEIGH ADAMS AND HANS ANDERSEN WERE
HARD TO MANAGE

8:10pm

AR: No, the BSPA do not recognise it, rightly or wrongly.

8:09pm

8:08pm

AR: We're working on it but there's no rush and we are determined to make sure we get the right person.

8:04pm

@nickytruman: Who is replacing Nick Morris and Josh Bates?

AR: Nick Morris is going nowhere and we're working on replacing Josh Bates.

Swindon Advertiser: Nick Morris and Alun Rossiter

NICK MORRIS IS GOING NOWHERE

8:02pm

AR: The first thing we need to change is that we believe we're not good enough, because if you do that then you're not good enough. I don't expect to win the World Cup final but I expect to make.

I believe in the riders we've got and they just need to believe in themselves.

8:00pm

What's your honest opinion of Matt Ford's methods?

AR: Matt is in it to win, that's the bottom line.

Has the new heat format been agreed and if so when will it be made available?

What new rules changes are being made to facilitate the juniors at reserve?

AR: That is still being sorted out and will be confirmed shortly.

7:59pm

AR: I really miss it but this is the next best thing now for me. You only have a short time doing this and I tell the kids that because you're a long time retired. I love being involved and giving an opinion because I really miss riding.

7:56pm

@scc01964: Can Rosco please explain why the club said absolutely nothing when Patch left and remain tight lipped.

AR: Gary's put a lot of time and effort into the club and has taken a backwards step. It's well documented how things went last year so he's taken a backward step this year.

Swindon Advertiser: Gary Patchett (right) and Alun Rossiter hold the Elite League trophy

GARY PATCHETT

7:54pm

@domwardle94 will you be promoting youth at the World Cup?

AR: I will just pick the best riders and I'm confident the young ones who are coming through will be pushing for place.

7:53pm

AR: Losing at Wolves 2009. Leigh Adams had his worst meeting as a Robin and it really hurt us.

Swindon Advertiser: Leigh Adams.jpg
LEIGH ADAMS

7:48pm

AR: You don't often see it I don't think, maybe occasionally. It's such a big ask to pull it off.

7:46pm

AR: Troy has matured as a rider and he seems to raise his game every time Hans was absent last season. He'll do a great job.

Swindon Advertiser: Troy Batchelor

congratulations on your G B appointment Alan- thoroughly deserved.
It all looks pretty good for the new season for all the robins fans-BUT as you know , all fans like to watch their speedway on the "telly" is their any news on who will be showing ELITE LEAGUE speedway this coming season?

AR: Not at the moment unfortunately.

7:40pm

7:40pm

AR: Swindon, Poole, Belle Vue and Eastbourne.

7:37pm

ANDY WARREN: A quick one from me, will the Robins be wearing the purple suits again this year.

AR: It's just the red and white this year, similar to last years, I really liked them.Swindon Advertiser: SWINDON ROBINS REVIEW OF THE YEAR 2013

THE PURPLE ROBINS ARE NO MORE

7:36pm

7:15pm Fri 24 Jan 14

deano... says

Will the abbey have a different track man so we can sort out some kind of home advantage there use to be 2 tracks in 1 a few years back ripped up on the outside which was quite deep and smooth on the inside

AR: Unfortunately being the track man is a thankless job and you have seven riders who all want it seven different ways, so I don't envy anybody who does it.

7:34pm

@russelldutton: have you ever ridden or managed a team at Stoke. What did you think of it?

AR: I've ridden at Stoke loads in my National League days and had some hummdingers of a race there. I miss it because I'm led to believe the surface has deteriorated, shame.

7:32pm

@archeroo can you ask Sir Alun what on average an EL rider earns per point?

AR: It's all based on points money, so I can't really say to be honest, sorry.

7:29pm

7:21pm Fri 24 Jan 14

StillPav says

Are the club planning on having a Fans Forum before the start of the season?

AR: Yes, A fans forum and maybe a disco will happen before the start of the season. We're planning it now.

7:28pm

AR: Of course it is because they have riders who could be number two or three over here at reserve. It's a shame but that's the way it is, although Poland and Sweden are struggling too. It's no different abroad.

7:26pm

AR: I'm hoping to have a meeting with the council to help us with more awareness in the town. So yes, we are working on that.

7:25pm

AR: Ian Meldrum, he's excellent. My favourite journalist was Cyril Hart from my days at Poole, he was excellent.
I have GOT to say Andy Warren is pretty good.

7:24pm

AR: I would like to do something and I'm working on a couple of things at the moment so watch this. Hopefully we can do something because it would really help us. I want to have a gettogether before the start of the season for all potentional GB riders and younger ones too.

7:22pm

6:59pm Fri 24 Jan 14

ludlow123 says

whey didn't you sign Jason Doyle

AR: Because he's doubling up. If he wasn't then he would have been the first on my team list.

Swindon Advertiser: Jason Doyle is an injury doubt

JASON DOYLE

7:21pm

AR: This is a real tough one. I still think there's more to come from Pawlicki (Shamek) at Poole. He's a really good rider and if he can stay injury free that would be great for them.

From our point of you I have a really gut feeling about Simon Gustafsson.
Swindon Advertiser: Simon Gustafsson won heat 15
SIMON GUSTAFSSON

7:15pm

AR: I'd like to think so. It's obvious the current stadium is outdated and we can do more with marketing and hospitality with a new stadium. It would be great.

7:14pm

AR: That's something we can look into. Maybe we can have a week where it's a certain rider and we can have a photo on the centre green. It would be good and we can look into it.
Swindon Advertiser: Swindon Robins boss Alun Rossiter at last night's meeting

UsernameSTFC says

Favorite cheese?

AR: Good one. It's between stilton and hot & spicy Mexicana.

Cheese and wine is my Friday night treat so I will do that later.

7:11pm

AR: It's great to have Pete back, he's a very calm, level headed guy and he's been a great help. We haven't done masses of stuff together because he's not stepping on my toes with the team and he's out trying to drum out new sponsors and work with previous sponsors.

When the season gets closer then things will happen we will see him more.

7:08pm

7:05pm Fri 24 Jan 14

deano... says

Is the situation with nick morris ok now?we all want nick to ride for us but it wouldnt work if hes at the club when he doesnt really want to be.

AR: We understand Nick's situation and fully understand his frustration but it wasn't Swindon's fault, it was Somerset's fault, and now all the Premier League places are filled so we hope Nick will be riding with us. As soon as a place come up earlier in the season he will get a Prem place.

7:06pm

@marchiett: What do you think about the BSPA banning British riders from the pairs meeting?

AR: It's not FIM recognised and it happens on dates where we have meetings in Britain. Thew BSPA were disappointed they were not consulted on the dates. I would love to have done it myself and I'm sure we could have worked it out but

7:02pm

ANDY WARREN: I'm going to kick us off this evening then your questions can flow.

Q: Rosco, how are preparations going for the new season? Getting excited yet?

Swindon Advertiser: Swindon Robins boss Alun Rossiter at last night's meeting

AR: Yeah, preparations are going good, we're just getting bits sorted now like the suits and things like that.

7:00pm
