Cooper's striker hunt not over yet

Swindon Advertiser: Mark Cooper Mark Cooper

SWINDON Town’s business in the January transfer window is not yet done, with Mark Cooper hinting he may still be in the market for another forward.

Cooper has added George Barker and Michael Smith to his striking options this month after Nicky Ajose returned to parent club Peterborough United but the Town boss still has irons in the fire.

And he told the Advertiser that owner Lee Power may well be wheeling and dealing right the way down to 11pm on deadline day next Friday.

When asked whether his business was complete following the signing of Smith, Cooper said: “No, I think we might still add another one before the window.”

The Robins chief remained coy when pushed on the identity and position of his next target.

When questioned whether he was after another attacking player, he said: “It could be, I can’t really elaborate on that but it could be. You’re always looking to improve and if players become available that fit into our ethos and the way we want to go in the future then I know the owner will want to do something.

“We had a list and we’ve spoken to a few players. In the transfer window, one week it’s a definite no and 10 minutes later it’s a definite yes because the other club has signed a player all of a sudden and they then become available.

“Until it’s signed, sealed and delivered - nothing.

“We’re looking to freshen things up and if the right player becomes available I know that the owner will definitely try to do it.”

Meanwhile, Cooper revealed that the club has received an approach for one of his squad members.

“I’ve had one enquiry for one player who’s not in the team at the moment but nothing concrete,” he said. “The team was in the north of England.”

I would hope we at least give Troy the chance to show he's good enough to play in this team, but fear you and Grim might be right.

In the Smith article he as good as said he would use Jay as his cover for centre back as soon as Alex is match fit to challenge for the left back berth.

One of the highest earners and we have to pay Exeter more on attendance
Plus he's fit enough to play today, this has and always has been a smoke screen for him to leave.
Also Pritchard is leaving after to go to Huddersfield, they wanted him last week but he is cup tied so spurs has told him to leave after today

Very mis-leading headline, I had to read the article twice to be sure at no time did Cooper confirm it was another striker he was after. When asked he said MAYBE. Maybe he's still after Ngoo, but maybe he's not available, preferably if Lee brought in another player I would like it to be a no nonsense midfielder that know how to defend.

It's this kind of conjecture from Sam that probably gets up Power's nose, he should stick to what he is told and that is we are still in the hunt for another player. Whom that player is and what position he plays will be advised if and when it happens.

Let's see what happens but if the above speculation is correct (and I suspect it is) then I really cannot understand our transfer policy... Looks like we'll be shipping out troy and Danny ng and bringing in ANOTHER unproven striker.

I guess they don't want to pay shrews the extra appearance fees for troy, but I think I'd rather us have spent the fee for one of the two new strikers on keeping troy (or an equivalent new cb)... We seem to be completely ignoring the problem area

Can't help thinking he might have been tapped up by Kenny Jacket to hand in a transfer request. Will be interesting to know what Wolves eventually pay for the man we let go for nothing and even paid his wages to score goals for Chestefield.

If we don't bring in another CB it is hard to see how TAH would be allowed to leave. He may be a high earner but if he had a great end to the season and helped tighten up the defence it would be money well spent, and increase his value.

Let's hope the comment was about Cox, who also must be on a PDC size wage!

Strikes me that if Troy is currently fit we should sell him while the selling is good. Chances are he'll be out injured again before too long. Let Carlisle, or whoever else is interested, pay his wages and his medical bills. What we need is a specialist centre half who is moderately competent and not completely over the hill. There must be one or two available who fit that bill and wouldn't cost a fortune, surely.

Carlisle may want Troy for next year so a loan now suits to prove fitness. With 6m left on contract TAH is hardly one for the future, neither is he quite right just now without games. Move him on, get the income for him, get a young 21 year old ready to push on with the others.

Agree, don't think he offered to much even before layoff, but in fairness he did have this deep seated injury so I assume that hampered him.

Still think its time to cut the losses and move on.

I think Troy has another year on his contract so he could be with us next season.

I might be wrong ciclo but I thought he had a 3 year contract.

Should not have taken on Ranger and the x Millwall player was a risk . Now two risky players in , to do a big job , score goals in a shambles of a team . All this in the hope we get maybe 10th . No chance of paly offs . From Riches with Dicanio and Mr Black to Paupers Mr Cooper and Scrooge Power. From challenging to just surviving then .

And between them they've scored three goals today... Total nonsense spouted on here! None of us know what's in the future but you could do the decent thing and give people a chance.
