Fitzpatricks Boxing Club’s Mikey Delaney won his first amateur bout in Bristol at the weekend.

Despite feeling nervous ahead of the bout, Delaney boxed superbly to get the decision.

Also in action from Fitzpatricks was Garvey Kelly who boxed well but lost the decision against Aiden Watson.

Trainer Paddy Fitzpatrick was pleased with his boxers, saying: “Mikey had night to remember. All he could talk about before going in was how nervous he was but you wouldn’t know it to see him perform. Garvey is turning out to be like a fine wine. He has started to transform himself over the last five months.

“He lost the decision in Bristol but for me Garv is quietly working his way through his own barriers. His goal has been, and remains to be, to become a well rounded fighter.”

Last week, Fitzpatricks boxer James Bridgman made his debut in Bristol and just lost out on a split decision and Thomas O’Leary.

Bridgman however was pleased with his performance, saying: “I thought I did okay. I lost by a split decision. I did what I was told to do but should have used my jab a little more.

“I now what to do for my next fight now. It was like a dream, didn’t feel real until the bell went. It was good. I enjoyed it, loved every minute of it.”

Fitzpatricks next boxing show will take place on April 4 at the Oasis Leisure Centre.
