MARK Cox will be walking into the unknown when he begins his UK Open campaign in Minehead tomorrow.

The Swindon player has been drawn against Shaun Narain in round one, avoiding the preliminary round, but goes into the game without knowing a thing about his opponent.

Cox would not even recognise Narain if they came face to face, but the Swindon player is not thinking about that as he prepares to get his tournament off and running.

“I’m looking forward to this one but I know absolutely nothing about my opponent,” he said.

“He’s played in a few events and been in the same room as me a few times but I can’t say I’ve ever come across him or that I even know what he looks like.

“That doesn’t really matter though, to be honest, because you should be concentrating on what you are doing and not on who the other person is or what they are doing.

“It should be good though and I hope I can do well.”

Cox was one of the more comfortable Swindon qualifiers, effectively securing his place with two tournaments to spare, and is now looking to make it into the second day in Minehead.

“I did enough on the first day of the second weekend to put me in which was could, although it could have been a bit more comfortable,” he said.

“If I can get through the Friday that would be perfect and would set me up to win some decent money. after that stage it’s an open draw and anything can happen.

“Last time I played there I threw away a bit of a lead but it’s all on the day to be honest and we need to see what happens.”
