10 THINGS TO DO IN AND AROUND SWINDON THIS WEEKEND

1. The Countdown to Christmas event takes place all weekend at John Lewis at Home, with a weekend of festive activities designed to delight shoppers and celebrate the countdown to Christmas. From 9am to 7pm on Saturday and 11am to 5pm on Sunday, there will be food tastings, stilt walkers, Christmas music, performance from Swindon Dance and a chance to post a letter to Santa. 

2. Join Sustrans at their family event on Saturday to learn more about walking and cycling safely around Swindon. Sustrans and Swindon Travel Choices will all be at Wharf Gree from 11am to 3pm. Local police officers will be offering free security bike marking, whilst Recycles bike shop will also be there with promotions and offers for their in-store services to keep you cycling safely this winter. For further information email Swindon@sustrans.org.uk or call 01793 600720.

3. Swindon's Last Night Of The Proms will be held at the Wyvern on Saturday from 7.30pm, presented by the Rotary Club of Swindon and raising funds for Prospect Hospice and Swindon Young Musicians. Tickets are £16. Call 01793 524481.

4. Swindon Town take on Bristol City at the County Ground on Saturday. Kick-off is at 3pm.

5. There will be an afternoon for young and old to commemorate WW1 in story and song at St Mary's Church in Lydiard Tregoze from 2pm to 4pm on Sunday. Local school children will lead the singing of WW1 songs and at 3.30pm there will be a reflective service closing the Field of Remembrance in the Walled Garden at Lydiard Park

6. Comedian Ross Noble will bring his show Tangentleman to the Wyvern on Sunday from 8pm. Tickets are £25. Call the box office on 01793 524481

7. Swindon 10K, a flat two lap course from Wroughton via Overtown, takes place from 11am on Sunday. Race HQ is at Swindon Karting in Hackpen Lane.  For any further information email gouldings@waitrose.com.

8. Head to Swindon Sub-Aqua Club on Saturday night for a talk by TV presenter and wildlife conservationist Miranda Krestovnikoff at 7.30pm. In the two-part talk at the club in Supermarine Road, Miranda will discuss her diving experiences and her work on the popular TV programmes Coast and Wreck Detectives. Tickets are £9 and admission is via advance ticket purchase only. 9. Cricklade Leisure Centre Christmas Fayre will be held on Sunday from 1pm to 4.30pm with over 40 stalls including crafts, jewellery, food, toys and more. There will also be children's activities and a raffle.

10. A 1940s night takes place at Cricklade Town Hall on Saturday, for the benefit of St Sampson's Organ Restoration Fund. There will be live music, a bar, period costumes, Ploughman's supper and more. For tickets, call 01793 751395.
