SEQOL’s resource for adults with learning and physical disabilities held its third annual open day this month at its premises in Upham Road. Individuals who use the centre were able to showcase their talents in art, pottery, card making, sewing, cooking, gardening and other activities that take place every week-day.

The open day was a chance for people in the community as well as family and friends to visit the centre, enjoy a cup of tea and cake, and see the work created by its users.

Duncan Appleford, deputy manager at SEQOL OK4U, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the number of visitors who’ve come today. The place has been buzzing and we are really pleased to see a number of pieces of artwork have already been sold.”

Swindon’s Mayor, Councillor Andrew Bennett, also attended the open day and viewed the various arts and crafts on display.

SEQOL OK4U caters for people aged 18 and over who have a learning or a physical disability. Staff work with individuals to identify what they like to do and what skills they would like to learn, and then help them to become as independent as possible while also making new friends and having fun. As well as trying their hand at different activities such as cooking, art, IT, dance and music they are also given the opportunity to go out and play sport, go shopping and visit cafés.

For those who prefer evenings, OK4U also runs Time4U which takes place every Tuesday evening, providing an opportunity to meet friends, play games and socialise. Each session costs £5.
