RESIDENTS in Liden will be glued to their TVs on Thursday morning when a new BBC TV show filmed on their road earlier in the summer is broadcast.

Street Auction, a new programme for BBC 1, rewards people who have done sterling work in their local community through volunteering, forming support groups or just being a good neighbour.

Presented by Flog It’s Paul Martin alongside antique expert Danny Sebastian, the show aims to raise funds for a deserving member of a local community using hidden, donated treasures found in their very own street. But it is only at the end of the party celebrations that the nominee finds out the money that has been raised is for them.

The film crew and presenters took over Tyron Close in Liden on Sunday, July 3 in a bid to raise money from their auctions for double amputee Bonny Walsh. Now, after three months of waiting, they will finally get to see the show on national TV when it is broadcast tomorrow.

Speaking about the new show, Paul said: “It’s a great way of bringing people together and it’s all about people power, about coming together for someone special and saying ‘thank you, you’re a true hero’.

“Hopefully, by making people aware of who their local heroes are, people will be proud of them and it will inspire others.

“I am loving working on this brand new series, it is a fantastic chance to see true community spirit with neighbours helping neighbours.”

Stella Hopkins, president of Liden WI, said: “We were contacted by the BBC and asked if we would like to be involved and what we would like to do, so, obviously, we decided to do the cake stall. We were very pleased to be invited and it’s such a wonderful day, what with the glorious weather and all these people turning up.”

Street Auction will be broadcast on BBC1 at 11am on Thursday morning. The show will return next Thursday with an episode filmed on Deerhurst Way in Toothill.
