THE past collides with the future in an exhibition to brighten the walls of the Central Library.

Friends John Webb and Trevor Hancock have partnered up to bring their very different artistic styles together for the special exhibition, which runs until February 27.

The display marks a return to art for John - who trained as an illustrator in the 1960s and even designed some of the advertisements for the Savoy on Regent Street - after he gave up his day job at Asda in West Swindon to focus on his creativity.

He brings with him numerous drawings and watercolours of Swindon’s lost railway heritage, including Swindon Town Station as well as some carefully captured scenes as the workshops were wound down.

There is also a taste of distant shores, with seascapes and beach scenes from holidays to Malta over the years, as well as four striking images of ‘The Old Lady on the Hill’ - Christ Church - through the seasons.

Somewhat newer to the art scene after a career in computer programming is Trevor, who brings his own futuristic artworks to the display to mark his very first exhibition. Drawing on his lifeskills, many of his digitally mastered works depict the moment that two worlds collide together.

The exhibition will be open to visitors during normal library opening hours, Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 7pm, Saturdays from 9.30am to 4pm and Sundays between 11am and 3pm.

The library will be closed today until 1pm.
