Sam Wylie-Harris suggests some top tier tipples to celebrate Mother's Day

If she loves her labels, adores a fragrant bouquet, can't resist the best bubbly or thinks it's always 'gin o'clock', here's how to pull out all the stops on Mother's Day (March 26)... and make her feel like she's the bees knees.

KEEP MUM

The champagne may not be personalised, but when she pops the cork on a bottle of GH Mumm Rose, France (currently £27.99, down from £41.99, www.ocado.com) the message is loud and clear. Bursting with summer berry fruit aromas and succulent red fruit flavours, it's fresh, vibrant and artfully put together. And the label gives added significance.

MODERN APOTHECARY

Wrapped in brown paper, string and wax, Ableforth's Bathtub Gin (£33.95, 70cl, www.masterofmalt.com) looks like it has a medicinal purpose (which is no bad thing). With top notes of cardamom and orange blossom, a jolt of juniper tinged with earthier botanicals and a hint of orange peel on the finish, it's just the tonic with a good wedge of orange. Deliciously different.

PEACH PERFECT

Showcasing the virtues of a good viognier, Abbotts & Delaunay Viognier 2015, Languedoc, France (£9.99, Majestic, selected stores) is a wonderful introduction to this perfumed white grape that produces luxuriously full-bodied whites with heady aromatics. Part of their new Wild Flowers range, it's delightfully fresh and fruity with a lifted nose of peach and apricots entwined with orange blossom.

STAR OF THE SHOW

One of Argentina's most iconic reds, Clos de Los Siete 2014, Valle de Uco, Argentina (£15, Sainsbury's) is a blend of malbec, merlot, cabernet sauvignon, syrah, and other varieties selected by pioneering winemaker Michel Rolland. Rich and appealing, abundant black-scented fruits, layers of spicy savouriness, a whisper of chocolate and a velvety smoothness make it hard to resist.

FIT FOR YOUR QUEEN

An ideal gift from England's green and pleasant land, Berry Bros & Rudd English Sparkling Wine by Gusbourne Estate (£25.95, www.bbr.com) comes with the Royal stamp of approval: Berry Bros wines are a staple in the Queen's cellar and Gusbourne Estate sparkle has been served at state banquets. A lovely pale lemony gold, it opens with meadow fresh, fruity aromas, crisp orchard fruits on the palate and a streak of minerality.

RAVISHING ROSE

Cited by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 'as good as Provencal rose can get', Mirabeau Etoile Rose 2016, Cotes de Provence, France (£14.25, Sainsbury's) is their latest creation. The palest, prettiest of pinks with the power and structure to seduce the senses with its mixed bouquet of florals, orange blossom and white peach, delicate silky texture and pure, graceful finish.

PRICELESS

If you really want to be the apple of her eye or flavour of the month, Armand de Brignac Rose, France (£450, www.harveynichols.com) has everything a great champagne can offer. With hand-finished details and couture styling - it's bottled in limited quantities, the pewter label is applied by hand and it's presented in a black veneer wooden gift box - the rose is a blend of three distinct vintages with the current release a blend of 2009, 2010 and 2012. Indulgent, extravagant and worth the outlay.
